Deja Vu (2006)
After a bomb rips through a ferry, killing 500 including scores of children, an ATF agent, played by Denzel Washington, is called to the scene to investigate. It's not until the body of a female victim washes up on a nearby shore an hour BEFORE the explosion, that the ATF agent begins to suspect something is amiss. After his partner, who was suppose to be on vacation, is found to be among those killed, he is recruited into a new investigative unit, headed by Val Kilmer, to look over the evidence, consisting of time-lapsed footage from 4½ days ago, to see if anything is "out of place."
The ATF agent begins to suspect something more is going on than he is being told as the video footage he is being allowed to view can be seen from any angle but cannot be fast forwarded or rewound, and always from 4½ days ago.
Finally, the ATF agent is brought into the fold and told of the government's new ability to look back on the past through the discovery of a space-time warp. They can look back at any location and any event, but only as it played out 4½ days ago, i.e., they are able to view a past event as if were in real-time but the cannot go backwards any further nor can they move it forward. With this information, they are able to track the person who they suspect is the bomber before he actually commits the act.
This movie is as unique as it is suspenseful, with a little bit of Einstein's time warping, "Theory of Special Relativity," thrown in. It was certainly one of the best movies that Hollywood has produced this year. Not surprising though as this movie is a reunion of sorts for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott who together also made Top Gun (starring Tom Cruise), Beverly Hills Cop II (starring Eddie Murphy), and Days of Thunder (again starring Tom Cruise).
