Blood Alley (1955)

Certainly a John Wayne classic but one that probably doesn't get seen as much as others simply because of its name, which is kind of a misnomer as there is no blood.

Wayne plays a sea Captain who is sprung from jail to ferry an entire Chinese village to Hong Kong and away from communist China. Lauren Bacall plays the strong willed daughter of a missionary who hides the Captain from Chinese soldiers out searching for him.

Strangely, the Captain, in order to keep his sanity while in prison, carries on conversations with an imaginary woman he calls "Baby," which continues all through the movie becoming old and tiresome.

The movie centers on whether or not this Chinese village can slip away from the Chinese government undetected. They map their escape route through the Taiwan Strait also known as "Blood Alley."

An entertaining movie for the whole family, and a good rainy day film.
