Apocalypto (2006)
A small and simple native indian tribe exisiting in the jungle of Mexico's Yucatan Penninsula has its village raided by the growing empire of the Mayans. The adults of the village, who were not killed in the raid, are taken prisoner and lead to the center of the Mayan empire to be sold as slaves to build the great Mayan temples.
This movie begins by showing realistic human behavior, much that anyone can identify with. Humor, disagreements, and passion. But that all ends when the Mayans, on their road to self-destruction, pay call to their obscure little village and turn the small tribe's world upside down.
Filmed in an original Mayan language, you will need to read subtitles with this movie, but after about five minutes you don't even realize that you're still reading as you get caught up in the plight of the villagers.
This is certainly a good movie and portrays this era of indian life based upon historical facts and Mayan writings of the time.
